| 1675 | RITCHIE–STEPHENSON - At Geelong, on the 20th January, by Mr. J. A. Hamill, of the Church of Christ,, Alexander Ritchie, of Pakenham, to Annie, widow of the late Dr. Stephenson, surgeon, of Berwick. Leader (Melbourne, Vic. : 1862 - 1918, 1935), Saturday 3 February 1877, page 25 After 7 years of courtship Annie Stephenson finally agreed to marry Alexander Ritchie who was farming at Pakenham. The marriage took place in February of 1877 at Geelong. The reason for this was that both Annie and Alexander were members of the Church of Christ and there was no resident minister in Berwick. The town was served by a travelling Evangelist, Mr. Hamill, who lived at Geelong and who invited them there for the wedding. So Alexander, Annie, Arthur Ernest Stephenson, Annie Gertrude Stephenson, (two of the children from Annie's previous marriage) Jane Fortune and two of her sons, Richard and John made up the wedding party that journeyed the 80 miles to Geelong on the other side of Melbourne From the Memoirs of Arthur Ernest Stephenson (Youngest son of Annie & Dr, Richard Stephenson) | Family: RITCHIE, Alexander / BUTCHER, Anne (F136)
