| 1569 | POLICE COURTS. CITY COURT. Friday, 8th March. DOMESTIC TROUBLES. Before Messrs Murphy, P.M., Wilson, Douglas, and Turner, J's.P. Edie Hart was the complainant in a case against her husband, William Hart, on a charge of leaving her with-out maintenance. Complainant stated that they had been married 30 years, but they parted seven years ago owing to the hus-band's cruelty. He had paid her £1 per week until two years' ago, when he had got out of work, and reduced the payments to 12s 6d. He had not paid a shilling since November last year. He had worked at a cyanide plant at Linton, but when she had last heard of him he was enjoying a holiday. Mr Murphy— Do you know what he is earning? Mrs Hart— l don't. He is partnership with his brother in the cyanide business. He found money to buy the plant. But how have you earned your own living?— By dressmaking, but I had to give it up owing to ill health. I've had three infants to look after. The bench made an order that the husband should pay 10s per week for the maintenance of his wife, and to find one surety of £5O within seven days for the fulfillment of the order, in default three months' imprisonment. | 1578 | Popular Nar Nar Goon Girl Weds St. James, Nar Nar Goon, was the setting on Saturday, 29th December, for the marriage of Miss Elizabeth (Betty) Fortune and Mr. Leonard Joseph Atkins. The bride, who was given away by her brother, Mr. Dick Fortune, looked radiant in a beautiful gown of white lace over satin. The fitted bodice was topped with a scalloped yoke of fine net and a Peter Pan collar of lace. Tiny buttons were sewn from the yoke to the waistline, and the long fitting sleeves came to a peak over her wrists. The beautifully cut full skirt extended to a long train. The tulle veil edged with fine lace, was held in place by a coronet of tiny waxen flowers, and a •trailer bouquet of frangipanni, cream gladioli, and gardenias was carried. The two bridesmaids, Miss Rose Fortune, and Miss Coral Harrison, were frocked alike in blue broderie anglaise, made with fitted bodices, full skirts, and tiny puffed sleeves. The wore frilled picture hats and carried silver baskets of water lilies, hydrangeas, sweet peas, delphiniums and carnations. Preceding the 'bridal party up the aisle was page boy—Master Len. Huxtable—nephew of the bridegroom. He wore a white satin suit, and carried a cushion of matching material on which was placed the wedding ring. The happy couple received the congratulations of many friends and relatives at the reception which was held in the Memorial Hall. For travelling the bride wore a mauve crepe frock with a heart-shaped neckline, beautifully beaded with crystal beads. Over this she donned a light weight coat of junior navy. Shoes •bag and gloves of the same shade and a junior navy hat trimmed with veiling and mauve feathers completed her outfit.
